Duplex stainless should be specified only when the service condition justifies it

Buyers working around seawater, salt-bearing washdown, or aggressive chloride conditions may consider duplex stainless mesh, but it should not be treated as an automatic upgrade. The decision depends on exposure severity, cleaning cycle, replacement cost, and whether the mesh geometry can be supplied practically in duplex grade.

Alloy performance and fabrication route must be aligned

Even if duplex offers corrosion advantages, the buyer still needs to confirm weave type, finished form, and fabrication process. Some applications may be better served by 316, Monel, or another material depending on geometry and cost balance.

Describe exposure, not just the material name

• State chloride exposure, temperature, cleaning method, and expected service interval.
• Confirm the required weave, opening, thickness, and finished part format.
• Ask whether duplex is available in the exact mesh construction you need.

Duplex mesh is worth specifying only when the corrosion risk and lifecycle cost clearly justify it.
