Wire Mesh Edge Treatment Guide: Cut Edge, Wrapped Edge, Framed Edge, and More

Compare safety, rigidity, assembly fit, and cost when choosing edge treatment for woven, welded, or fabricated wire mesh parts.

Edge treatment changes how the mesh is used and handled

Many buyers quote aperture, wire diameter, and size correctly but overlook the edge condition. Cut edges may be acceptable for internal filtration or hidden assembly, while wrapped, welded, framed, or hemmed edges may be necessary for safety, stiffness, or visual finish.

The right edge depends on assembly and user contact

A decorative panel, machine guard, basket, or screen tray may each need a different edge solution. A good RFQ should explain whether the mesh is touched by operators, inserted into a frame, welded into an assembly, or installed as a visible finish component.

Do not leave edge condition to assumption

  • State whether the edge is cut, folded, framed, welded, or banded.
  • Confirm burr limits, corner condition, and allowable exposed wire ends.
  • Ask how edge treatment changes dimensional tolerance and packing method.

Clear edge requirements reduce rework because many complaints come from finishing detail rather than the mesh body itself.
